John F. Haffey joined the firm in 2001 after practicing three years with the Montana Department of Transportation. Mr. Haffey earned his J.D. from the University of Montana School of Law in 1998. In 1994 he earned a Bachelor of Science, with honors, in Engineering Science from Montana College of Mineral Science and Technology.

Mr. Haffey’s principal areas of practice include insurance law, tort defense, products liability, construction law, and intellectual property litigation. He draws from a diverse background in engineering and construction, including having worked both as a construction inspector and also as a commercial truck driver. While serving as counsel for the state, he represented the agency in condemnation, environmental, and contract litigation. His registration as a patent attorney allows for representation of clients before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

He is a member of the State Bar of Montana, the American Bar Association, the Western Montana Bar Association, Defense Research Institute, and Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society.

He is admitted in all State and Federal Courts in Montana, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, United States Court of Appeals Federal Circuit, and is a registered patent attorney in the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Outside of his practice, Mr. Haffey plays bagpipes as a member of the Celtic Dragon Pipe Band, bikes, skis and most importantly, spends time with his family.
