Support Staff

Phillips Law Firm, maintains a staff of legal researchers from the University of Montana Law School, and utilizes trained paralegals whenever possible. Calendaring is fully automated, and billing procedures comply with all requirements of any business or insurance company.

Elaine LaPointe-Vetter, CLA, graduated from Kinman Business University in Spokane, Washington in 1973, and has continued her education through coursework at the University of Montana College of Technology Paralegal Studies program, and has attended a variety of legal seminars. She received her Legal Assistant Certification in 2003, and is a member of the Paralegal Section of the State Bar of Montana, the Montana Association of Legal Assistants, and the National Association of Legal Assistants.

Ms. LaPointe has been a paralegal with the firm since 1982, and has assisted in cases involving many areas of law, including preparation for and attendance at numerous trials. Her primary practice areas are civil litigation, insurance defense, business planning, estate planning, and probate. In addition, she provides technical assistance to the firm with computer and networking issues.

Having grown up in beautiful Plains, Montana, with an appreciation for rural life, she has volunteered as an organizational leader in the Missoula County 4-H program for over 15 years. She enjoys spending time with her two daughters and extended family, hiking with her dogs, reading, cooking, and traveling.

Mary J. Maynard graduated from The College of Great Falls in 1983 with an Associate of Science Degree in Paralegal Studies. She has been a paralegal with the firm since 1990. Prior to that, she was a deputy clerk for the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana.

Ms. Maynard has assisted with cases involving many areas of law, focusing primarily on civil litigation, insurance coverage and insurance bad faith. She has also prepared for and attended numerous trials in State Court, Federal Court and Tribal Court.

Ms. Maynard’s professional and community involvement includes being a Member of the Montana Association of Legal Assistants, seminar chair and national counselor with the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Foundation, member of the Development Counsel for St. Patrick Hospital Foundation, and assistance with Westside Little League Baseball.

Ms. Maynard was born and raised in Missoula, Montana. She has been married since 1991 and has one son. She treasures time spent with her family enjoying the outdoors in and around Montana. Together, they hike, bike, golf and downhill ski. She has taken many local cooking classes, and enjoys preparing fine meals for family and friends.

Natalie Hammond was born and raised in Missoula, Montana. She attended the University of Montana, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Communications in 1999. She then moved to Boston, MA, where she worked in retail as an Assistant Buyer. After her return to Montana, Ms. Hammond continued her education at the University of Montana, graduating in 2008 with her Associate of Applied Sciences degree in Paralegal Studies. Coursework included classes on civil litigation, contracts, criminal procedure, estates and probate, family law, and legal research. Ms. Hammond also worked for Allegiance, a health insurance company, where she gained experience in medical terminology and processing claims.

Ms. Hammond volunteers with the Red Cross. During the 2007 wildfire season she assisted with shelter evacuations. In her free time Ms. Hammond enjoys floating the rivers of Western Montana, camping, and spending time with her friends and family. She is also an avid New England sports fan, with the Red Sox being her favorite team.
